Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Covers EP
Warner Bros.
This covers record, a mash note following their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, shows the Chilis as surprisingly mutable. The jokers who once grunted "Catholic School Girls Rule" nail "A Teenager in Love" with startling tenderness, and elsewhere go mostly for accuracy: Neil Young's "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" gets a gutterpunk edge, the Beach Boys' "I Get Around" some doo–wop color, the Stooges' "Search & Destroy" some extra groove. Only the Ramones' "Havana Affair" is flipped, from Redscare rant to Commie crush–out ballad – because absurdity is a rock tradition too.
