Just two weeks after Rolling Stone declared Matt Foley: Motivational Speaker the greatest Saturday Night Live sketch of all time, Chicago's esteemed Second City unearthed a fantastic performance from 1990 starring the sketch's co-writers Bob Odenkirk and a 26-year-old Chris Farley, who had just been announced as one of SNL's newest cast members. Consider this VHS recording the comedy version of Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series.
Though it would eventually call on the talents of Phil Hartman, Julia Sweeney and David Spade, the supporting cast here includes SNL veteran Tim Meadows and Jill Talley of Mr. Show (and — it should be said, rock fans — the star of the Smashing Pumpkins' 1996 video for "Tonight Tonight"). Watch this piece of history now and see the early days of some people who ended up amounting to a lot more than… jack… squat!
