In an otherwise crummy week, Peter Travers looks towards the one beacon of hope in theaters this weekend: Beasts of the Southern Wild, a film about a six-year-old girl named Hushpuppy living in a post-Katrina Louisiana Bayou with her abusive father. "It gets a little magic realism," says Travers, drawing a comparison to Terrence Mallick's Tree of Life, but adds, "you are seeing things that make you excited about movies again."
Agree with Travers' pick of Beasts of the Southern Wild over the new Ice Age, Oliver Stone's Savages or thriller Red Lights? Let him know in the comments below, on Twitter or via e-mail.
