'Not Fade Away' Builds the Band

Behind the scenes of David Chase's rocking drama

On April 30th, David Chase's Not Fade Away, a coming-of-age story about a group of suburban New Jersey kids in the 1960s who start a rock & roll band, will see release on DVD and Blu-ray. Now you can check out this exclusive behind-the-scenes video about what it took to get the films' stars ready to rock.

With the help of a handful of musicians, including longtime E Street Band guitarist (and actor in his own right) Steven Van Zandt, the film stars John Magaro, Jack Huston and Will Brill took an intensive crash course in rock & roll, cramming about two years' worth of music lessons in two months, by Brill's estimate. "He was the perfect guy in so many ways," says Chase of Van Zandt's contributions. "He didn't sit there hour after hour teaching them how to play the guitar. A lot of the coaching of the acting and the stage craft of it – Steven taught them."
