We go to the movies to see our own hopes, dreams and fears reflected back at us — and, occasionally, to watch a 20-story lizard breathe fire, chomp on commuter trains and reduce major cities to rubble. It was a safe bet that director Gareth Edwards' upcoming big-budget Godzilla reboot would provide plenty of that, and a new extended trailer delivers on that promise. Fighter jets get thrown. Bridges get knocked down. There will be a giant green tail that whips over a skyline and then flattens everything in its path.
This latest preview does fill in some more story points — namely, that Bryan Cranston has a personal stake in going after the monster, in the form of Juliette Binoche suffering during an attack on nuclear power plant. But while the first trailer for the summer blockbuster didn't exactly skimp on the money shots, this latest clip offers is a bigger hint of the destruction to come. After a tsunami is seen devastating a tropical vacation spot and flares reveals its huge and scaly cause, it's non-stop CGI carnage until the end — at which point we finally get a good look at this new Godzilla's face.
The movie is schedule to be released on May 16th and co-stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elisabeth Olsen and David Strathairn.
