New 'Girls' Trailer Pits Hannah Against a Devil in Prada
Struggling writer catches a break in new preview

The maladroits of Girls take even more hesitant steps toward adulthood in a new trailer for the upcoming third season of the HBO comedy. In keeping with the first teaser clip released last month – in which our struggling heroine Hannah twerked against a tombstone – this clip finds Hannah and her pals adrift in Brooklyn, trying to establish their careers and relationships.

Shoshanah, increasingly the voice of logic, sets a cynical tone for the season: "It's really amazing that all three of you have accomplished so little in the four years since college," she says peppily as her friends' faces drop. From there, we see Marnie push back against a fading love interest ("I wouldn't be eating pizza in front of you if I actually liked you!") and Hannah's long-suffering boyfriend Adam's thousand-yard stare (presumably directed at his fickle partner). Also, Shoshanah snaps, "Deepak Chopra, I'm sick of your shit" – and let's just hope that's directed at the preening Jessa. We also see the return of Hannah's bi ex-boyfriend Elijah, several tearful breakdowns, and a synchronized jump into a swimming pool.

The third season of Girls promises to bring action, finally, to Hannah's long-stagnant writing career. After landing a successful meeting with a publisher, she finds herself across a sleek table from Jenna Lyons, J. Crew creative director, in what appears to be a role as Hannah's stylish and disdainful boss. "I see you found the snack room as well," Lyons says witheringly as Hannah drops an armful of food. Here's hoping the Girls are ready for this woman.

The third season premieres January 12th on HBO.
