John Carter, the new sci-fi adventure film starring Taylor Kitsch, may have  terrible internet buzz, but it's actually a mildly entertaining take on the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic, says Peter Travers. Kitsch looks convincingly wounded and soulful as a man who lost everything in the Civil War before getting zapped to Mars, and the action sequences are genuinely exciting. It's a bit confusing and the 3D isn't so hot, but it's a lot better than most of the junk in theaters right now.
