  • Why Disney Cannot Rush 'Star Wars'

    November 1, 2013 2:45 PM ET
     |  Peter Holslin

Star Wars is not The Hangover. It is not The Fast and The Furious. It's not the movie equivalent of a McDonald's hamburger, a cheap piece of cinematic entertainment that can be churned out with relative ease, all thanks to a trusty set of hero clichés and action-packed plot templates. Why Lawrence Kasdan Replaced Michael Arndt on Star Wars But considering the ambitious plan that Disney supposedly has for this exalted franchise, you might think some executives think it is. Disney's CEO Robert Iger is insisting that Star Wars: Episode VII get a 2015 release, according to The Hollywood Reporter. His mandate comes on the heels of the departure of screenwriter Michael Arndt, who allegedly left the script in a largely unfinished state. Although the movie's producer has requested for an extension to 2016, according to THR's sources, Iger wants Episode VII in theaters during the '15 calendar year. That's because he's supposedly assembled ...  | More »

If anybody knows how hard it is to write a script for a massively popular film franchise, it's Oscar-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt. In the late '00s, when he signed up with Pixar to pen the Toy Story 3 screenplay, Arndt cycled through endless drafts while facing immense pressure from the outside world. Eventually, though, his three years of grueling toil paid off, as the computer animated blockbuster won the Oscar for Animated Feature Film in 2010. Decoding the Star Wars Casti...  | More »

  • J.J. Abrams Will Write 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

     |  Jon Blistein

J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan are now spearheading the script for the upcoming Star Wars reboot, according to a post on the franchise's website. Episode VII was initially being penned by Oscar-winning Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt, and while the post acknowledges his work up to this point, it makes no mention of why he's no longer working on the project. Abrams' assumption of the co-writing duties is no surprise, however, considering he's directing the film. Kasdan h...  | More »

    October 24, 2013 11:15 AM ET

Last night on The Tonight Show, Harrison Ford had some choice words for Jay Leno about whether he'd appear in the upcoming Star Wars reboot – though it may help if you can read lips. Ford cheekily avoided the question, flashing a grin and mouthing what ultimately looks like a bit of mumbo jumbo. While Ford may have stayed mum last night, he's been a bit more chatty on the subject of reprising his role of Han Solo in the highly anticipated Episode VII, set for a 2015 release. ...  | More »
