Saturday Night Live alum and former "Weekend Update" anchor Tina Fey has nothing but praise for relative newbie Cecily Strong, who will join the news desk this season and may helm it solo if Seth Meyers leaves.
"Oh, yeah," Fey said backstage at Sunday night's Emmy Awards when asked if Strong was a good choice. "One thing that will be sad is that she's really great at 'Weekend Update' features, so you'll kind of miss that. You have to be comfortable being yourself on camera [as anchor], which she'll be great at."
Strong joined SNL last season and will be cohosting "Weekend Update" with Meyers; he will reportedly leave mid-season when he takes over NBC's Late Night talk show.
Fey, whose final season of 30 Rock garnered her an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, is set to host the 39th season premiere of Saturday Night Live this weekend.
