The renewal itself is perhaps no surprise as HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said recently that he'd be "shocked" if Aaron Sorkin's drama about a cable news show didn't come back. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reason for the delayed announcement is that Sorkin is committed to writing a script for an upcoming Steve Jobs biopic before he returns his focus to The Newsroom.
The Newsroom's second season — which has continued to garner sharp criticism but strong ratings — will wrap up on September 15th with the conclusion of a two-part episode centered around the 2012 election. Be sure to keep up with the goings on of Will McAvoy and the rest of the News Night staff with our weekly recaps.
