The Newsroom will return to HBO next year, show star Jeff Daniels confirmed in a tweet last night: "It's official. #Newsroom coming back for a season three."

Is 'The Newsroom' the Best Bad Show Ever?

The renewal itself is perhaps no surprise as HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said recently that he'd be "shocked" if Aaron Sorkin's drama about a cable news show didn't come back. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reason for the delayed announcement is that Sorkin is committed to writing a script for an upcoming Steve Jobs biopic before he returns his focus to The Newsroom.

The Newsroom's second season — which has continued to garner sharp criticism but strong ratings — will wrap up on September 15th with the conclusion of a two-part episode centered around the 2012 election.
