Oscars host Seth MacFarlane unexpectedly taught a television and film class at UCLA today, as well as announced a contest that will send college students to the awards show, the Associated Press reports. The Family Guy creator spent about 40 minutes teaching as part of mtvU's "Stand In" series.

MacFarlane also explained a new contest that invites students to submit videos on the Academy's Facebook page. In their clips, young academics should describe their roles in the future of film. At least six winners will appear as trophy carriers at the Academy Awards, which will be broadcast on February 24th.
