Following reports that Philip Seymour Hoffman had been offered a role in the upcoming Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the actor has now officially been cast in the next film of the series. Hoffman will play Plutarch Heavensbee, the new Gamekeeper who succeeds Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley).
Hoffman is fresh off a Tony nomination for his portrayal of Willy Loman in a Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman. In April, Francis Lawrence joined Hunger Games: Catching Fire as director after The Hunger Games director Gary Ross declined the position due to scheduling conflicts. Filming for Catching Fire is scheduled for this fall, with the film set for a November 22nd, 2013 release.
