Warner Bros. has offered an intriguing first glimpse at Wonder Woman, the upcoming DC Comics stand-alone film. A new teaser, which debuted Tuesday during CW special DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League, showcases Gal Gadot as Diana, the Amazonian warrior-princess-turned-superhero. "We're going to see her coming of age, the entire history, what’s her mission," the actress says in the clip, between shots of the character riding on horseback and fighting enemies.
"Wonder Woman is one of the greatest superheroes out there, but people don't know her origin like they know Superman's origin and Batman's origin," explains DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, alongside veteran filmmaker Kevin Smith. "So what we want to do in the film is really tell people who she is, where she comes from and why she does what she does.
"These Amazons were once created to protect man's world, but they've since abandoned it," Johns adds elsewhere. "Diana's asking constantly, 'Why don't we go do what we were created to do and protect man?' And they say, 'Because they're not worth it.' This takes her on a journey into our world."
Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 23rd, 2017. Gadot's character will also appear in Batman v Superman, which opens on March 25th.
