The Hunger Games cast just got a bit more regal: Academy Award winner Julianne Moore has signed on to play District 13 President Alma Coin in Mockingjay – Parts 1 & 2, the final films in the beloved dystopian franchise.
Lionsgate tweeted the news today. In the original book series (written by Suzanne Collins), Mockingjay concluded the story in dramatic fashion by focusing on the Quarter Quell tributes. Moore's role is expected to be substantial, given her character's high profile.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 has a release date of November 21st, 2014, while Part 2 is slated for November 20th, 2015. Meanwhile, Catching Fire – the second installment of the film franchise – will hit theaters this November 22nd. In the film, Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) finds herself battling personal issues after winning the Hunger Games.
Lawrence spoke about her role at this year's Comic-Con: "She’s struggling from post-traumatic stress from the games, and she kind of has a new life where she never has to worry about food anymore," Lawrence said. "She's living in Victor's Village, and that kind of leaves her feeling useless in an odd way. She has to kind of adapt to this new life."
