James Gandolfini is making his final journey home to New York. The late actor's body was flown out of Rome's Fiumicino airport on a private flight on Sunday at noon EST, Reuters reports.
The Sopranos star was on holiday in Italy with his family when he died on Wednesday, June 19th, reportedly from a heart attack. Family friend Michael Kobold spoke to reporters in Rome on behalf of the family and thanked the Italian authorities and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry for their help in speeding up procedures to repatriate Gandolfini's remains.
Us Weekly reports that the funeral for Gandolfini will be held on Thursday morning at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Bruce Springsteen offered his own tribute to the actor on Thursday night, dedicating his performance of the entire Born to Run album to Gandolfini during his concert in Coventry, England.
