Chadwick Boseman is set to play James Brown in Universal Pictures' new biopic on the Godfather of Soul. The 42 star will join director Tate Taylor (The Help) along with producers Brian Grazer and Mick Jagger, reports Deadline.
The film, written by Jez and Henry Butterworth, chronicles Brown's life from extreme poverty during his childhood to becoming a world-renowned recording artist in the 1960s and Seventies.
A James Brown biopic has been in the works for more than a decade, with actors including Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes rumored to play the lead. James Brown played an active part in the development of a film about his life before his death in 2006.
