Homeland and Masters of Sex have both been renewed by Showtime for 12-episode runs next year, Deadline reports. The news comes with both shows just four weeks into their current seasons, the third for Homeland, but only the first for the new drama Masters of Sex.

"Homeland continues to prove its strength for Showtime, and is one of television’s most exciting, provocative and widely discussed shows,” David Nevins, Showtime's president said. “The critical and audience reaction to Masters Of Sex since its great launch has been incredibly gratifying."

Homeland, which finished its second season on a rather divisive note, has continued strong showings in the ratings even as its latest season continues to polarize audience reactions – so much so, we've even compiled our own list of seven ways Homeland can be saved from itself.

Meanwhile, newcomer Masters of Sex – which chronicles the real life work and relationship of sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson – has garnered wide critical praise and an impressive 5.4 million average weekly viewers (about 33-percent more than what Homeland drew its first season). You can read our interview with star Michael Sheen, who spoke of how a recent turn as Hamlet helped him prepare for his turn on Masters.
