The casting reunites Clarke, best known for playing Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, with director Alan Taylor, who helmed six episodes of the HBO series. According to Variety, Zero Dark Thirty's Jason Clarke is in talks to play Sarah Connor's son, John Connor, and Arnold Schwarzenegger will be returning to the role he originated in James Cameron's 1984 film.

The new installment of the Terminator franchise is planned as the first in a stand-alone trilogy. The film is set for release on June 26th, 2015.
