Many of the tracks on Frank Ocean's breakthrough album Channel Orange take a critical eye to the lives of young, wealthy and reckless Los Angelenos, so it makes sense that Gossip Girl would look to him to soundtrack the fictional exploits of New York City's most debauched kids. Now, five songs from Channel Orange are set to appear in the next episode of the show, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The episode, titled "Monstrous Ball," will air on Monday; it marks both the first time that Gossip Girl has used a single artist's music throughout an entire episode and the first time that Ocean's music has appeared in a television series. Clips from "Lost," "Super Rich Kids," "Pyramids," "Sweet Life" and "Thinkin Bout You" will be featured.
This isn't the first über-hip musical moment for Gossip Girl, now in its final season. Back in 2009, Sonic Youth gave a cameo performance of "Star Power" and in 2010, Robyn stopped by for a rendition of "Hang With Me" accompanied by a string quartet.
Be sure to check out our chat with Gossip Girl's creator, Josh Schwartz, about his favorite musical moments on the show.
