Barbra Streisand has her heart set on directing a new movie, reports Reuters. A spokesman for Streisand confirmed that the singer and actress hopes to direct Skinny and Cat, with Colin Firth and Cate Blanchett reportedly set for lead roles. But her spokesman also revealed the film has had financial issues, preventing a greenlight thus far.
Earlier this month, Streisand told the Los Angeles Times of her difficulties in raising $20 million for the film. Skinny and Cat tells the love story of writer Erskine Caldwell and his photojournalist wife Margaret Bourke-White, with Linda Yellen penning the script. Streisand is also working on adapting the musical Gypsy to film, with her in a starring role. Skinny and Cat would be Streisand's first directorial role since The Mirror Has Two Faces in 1996.
