The upcoming season of American Idol could be delayed if a third judge isn't found soon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first taping of the show's 13th season, which is set for next Tuesday, could be delayed following the unraveling of Dr. Luke's deal with Fox.
The producer behind hits by Katy Perry and Britney Spears was reportedly set to join Idol until it emerged that serving as a judge would pose a conflict of interest between his label, Sony Music, and Universal Music, which owns all the rights to American Idol releases.
Jennifer Lopez is returning to the show after a season off. She'll serve on a judges' panel that also includes returning judge Keith Urban. The show lost most of its judges last season with the departure of Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.
At the TCA's earlier this month, Fox chairman Kevin Reilly said the network's aim is to find judges who are good at the job, and that the network plans to refocus the attention of the show on the contestants.
