Alan Rickman has signed on to play CBGB owner Hilly Kristal in a forthcoming move about the legendary punk rock club, Billboard reports. The film, which will be co-written and directed by Randall Miller, will tell the story of how the club, which Kristal opened as a country and bluegrass venue, became ground zero for the American punk rock movement in the late Seventies.
Rickman, a British actor best known for his performance as the menacing Severus Snape in all eight Harry Potter films, also recently signed on to play Ronald Reagan in another forthcoming film called The Butler. One can only hope that Rickman plays the late president without changing his booming, imperious, heavily accented voice even a little bit.
