The guilty pleasures that come from readiing James Patterson's thrillers about police psychologist and family man Alex Cross diminished in the miscasting of a too-old Morgan Freeman in 1997 and 2001. Now Tyler Perry, best known for playing a big momma in big-flowered dresses in his Madea comedies, takes on the challenge. Maybe I'll be surprised and Perry will give the role the machismo and integrity it deserves. But I'm getting toxic vibes.
