'The Immigrant'

Here's another somber, thoughtful crime drama from director James Gray and Joaquin Phoenix, the team behind The Yards and We Own the Night. This one's a period piece about a Polish woman (Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard) who comes to New York in the 1920s and is forced into prostitution by a pimp (Phoenix). Jeremy Renner is also aboard, this time without bow and arrow, as a chivalrous magician who falls for Cotillard's character.
