The band's original song for Martin Scorsese's epic Gangs of New York may have lost to Eminem's "Lose Yourself" that year, but it was a big win for Irish-Americans, with presenter Colin Farrell stating that it "honors new Americans who left Ireland in search of a better life, willing to fight for it at any expense."
