The result is a series of four reports from around the country, published exclusively on RollingStone.com. Check ‘em out, and if you’ve missed any of the episodes, read our definitive episode guides.

I’m commenting on the chicken farms. I live in metcalfe county Kentucky and myself, wife, three daughters, mother, renter next door, his daughter, and his parents all have been having unknown gastrointestinal illnesses for about 4 years total now. We all have been to countless doctors with no explanation. We all sufer from stomache pain, diahrrea, heartburn, acid reflux, gallbladder problems and even thyroid diseases. We all live within 1 mile of chicken houses and the wind blows in the direction of from the chicken houses to us. Every six weeks countless semi trucks loaded with chickens rool by for about 5 days taking the full grown chickens from the chicken farms. In a 10 mile square radius there are 4 tyson chicken farms, each with 4 huge chicken houses. I know we’re all sick from this.

THANK YOU FOR WRITING THESE!!! Understanding the consequences of our actions seems to be a thing most media avoids covering this inconvenient truth and the industries perpetrating these atrocities on the world certainly don’t want us to see it. GO VEGAN. It’s easier today than ever. GO VEGAN For environmental sustainability, for health, for love, peace and kindness towards other living beings, for economic stability, for human rights. This is a small planet with an ever growing population and animal agriculture is a colossal mistake at this juncture. Question cultural, religious and societal “norms”. One’s preference for the taste flesh and animal products should not outweigh the absolute travesty of consequences those products are inflicting on the entire population on earthlings who share this planet. We are not ostrich, we must pull our heads from the sands of denial and CHANGE. It can be done, it MUST be done. AND IT MUST BE DONE NOW!!!! GO VEGAN learn how now at www.chooseveg.com

I just read all 4 of your articles and was immediately incensed re: what appears to be gross disregard for nature and the various populations on Space Ship Earth. But a thought occurred to me. I live in Los Angeles and have for several years. I have heard people bith and moan about the smog and then I go to the freeways and see a major contributor. No one is pushing for mass transit. No one is pushing for ways to decrease fossil fuel use. A few millions ears of corn is hardly a long term answer. No one is pushing for more economical vehicles that are safe. Oh I jnow the government is not supportive. The government won’t stop the madness. Well the last time I checked the government is BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE AND OF THE PEOPLE. I think that would be us. This is not new information, but we are still sitting around waiting for someone else to do something and please could you be so kind as to not inconvenience me.

A huge thank you for the eye-openers!! Especially for the very informative, disturbing, eloquent and readable expose on Smithfield Foods by Jeff Tietz. I’m not sure I’m ready to become a vegetarian (yet), but I sure as hell am ready to utilize sustainable family farms in my area, screw the price! The arrogance this Joseph Luger dude displays, not to mention his greed and complete disdain for the animals, environment and humans living in and around these things is chilling. Now the creep is in Poland!! Very scary.
Thanks again for the real reporting!

pete maidens story on corpus christi couldnt be any more true, ive lived here all my life and seen the effects of these refinerees, i happen to live about 1 mile away from koch refinerees, and its a shame to have all this polution being pumped in the air because corpus christi is such a beautiful city and it sucks to have to see a long line of refinerees just before u can get to the shoreline, we call corpus sparkeling city by the sea, but if we cant do anything to stop this polution then that name will sease to exist

I was born and Raised in Cordova Alaska and when I saw the episode of I’m from Rolling Stone talking about our little town I was amazed. Something we have all thought would never be adressed is finally getting attention. My dad use to be gone all the time fishing it seems and now our lives have completly changed. It(the oil spill) has had an enormous effect on our town. I am just very happy to see anything adressing the issue thank you

RS reporting the truth about Bush and the do-nothing Repubican Congress has been a rare light in a dark time in our history. You may have been the only source reporting on Bush’s disasterous environmental record in Texas during the 2000 campaign. I certainly don’t recall seeing any critical reporting in the corporate news media as we were led from one disaster to the next the past seven years. Your reporting has given those of us trying to protect what is left of this planet some hope that we are not struggling in vain. Please keep pushing back against these evil people that are working tirelessly to steal our children’s future.

Wow,
I haven’t seen one investigative report in our are paper on this topic. I live in the city so I don’t necessarily deal with it everyday but this is blatant and needs to be heard.

I think these four articles should be only the beginning. Its such an eye opener. I have been reading a good majority of your articles on global warming, and the way the government has done nothing constitutes these reports. Big business has obviously been screwing us for years. This gives the people, who are not committed to changing their daily life just a little, a new perspective… our own all-american towns are being polluted and people are getting sick. I live close enough to TMI that I would like to know its capping pollution as much as possible. Maybe it will help start some kind of new push for stricter laws and more citizen support.
I think this project was a great idea and you should be sure to keep them coming.

Ya its about time they do something that is important and be aware how important it is to become a vegetarian and vegan, not only to stop animal cruelty but for our planet. They should do a article on the rapper Supa Nova the concious rapper, that talks about this subject along with rapper Common, the Holistic Healing for the Hiphop Generation
