The Definitive Guide to Episode Six: “Time to Flip the Script”
ACT ONE
Monday…Krish finds out that her mother sent in the rent check two weeks late and yells at her on the phone, saying that she’s sick of her being financially irresponsible with her money. After hanging up, she explains that she doesn’t just want the job at Rolling Stone — she needs it.
Krish sits in with Joe, national affairs editor Eric Bates and managing editor Will Dana to pitch ideas. None of her pitches are met with enthusiasm. She returns to the fishbowl to vent, and considers pitching the ideas to other magazines.
Joe visits the fishbowl to inform the kids that two of them will be sent to cover Lollapalooza in Chicago. The selection will be determined by pitches all six kids submit proposing the best way to cover the fest. Pitches are due the following morning at 10:30 sharp.
Pete, who’s still working on his Band of Horses article, sits down with Alex to go over his latest revision. Alex says the newest draft is a vast improvement and tells him she’s going to publish it on the website. Pete rejoices.
That evening, Pete, Colin and Russell meet for dinner at a Thai restaurant and talk about their prospects for earning the RS job. They discuss the Lollapalooza pitches. Russell says he isn’t going to bother working on a pitch and tells Colin and Pete they shouldn’t stress about it.
Back at their apartments, Colin and Pete both work on their Lollapalooza pitches. Russell snoozes.
The next morning, the kids submit their pitches. Joe pulls Russell aside to ask where his is. Russell says he doesn’t have it yet, and Joe reminds him that since it wasn’t submitted in time, he’s disqualified from being considered to cover Lollapalooza.
Russell jokes around with friends that he screwed up again.
ACT TWO
Joe meets with Krish to talk about her frustrations at not getting her pitches assigned. He tells her she needs to stop feeling entitled and focus on trying to become indispensable to the RS team.
Pete and Colin, who’ve been selected to cover Lollapalooza, touch down in Chicago. Over lunch, they share the contents of their pitches with one another. Pete’s idea is to cover thirty bands in three days. Colin wants to report on the Ice Cream Man, a mysterious fellow who travels across the country giving away free ice cream at various music festivals.
They trek to the venue and sit down with festival founder Perry Farrell.
Back in NYC, Joe talks to Russell about rededicating himself to his work. Russell says his own insecurities are undermining his chances of proving himself.
At Lollpalooza, Pete interviews Eels drummer Knuckles. Meanwhile, after a brief interview with the Ice Cream man, Colin goes off to explore Lollapalooza. Pete watches Wolfmother and interviews singer Andrew Stockdale.
Back in New York, Krish and Krystal deal with a guy who calls them “rich girls.” Joe invites them to attend a listening session for the new Snoop Dogg album. Krish asks questions that impress the label’s A&R guy Ted Chang.
ACT THREE
Joe sits down with Krish and tells her she really impressed him at the Snoop listening session, and asks why she didn’t think to pitch a story on the album. He assigns her an album preview for the magazine and tells her to set up an interview with Snoop.
In Chicago, Pete approaches his thirtieth band, rocking out to Panic! At the Disco and Ben Kweller. Meanwhile, Colin talks his way onto the stage as a dancer for Flaming Lips.
At the office, the editors discuss the raw material Pete and Colin have submitted from their Lollapalooza coverage.
Russell speaks to his mother on the phone, telling her of his plans to recommit to the job.
Pete and Colin return to the offices and work on their Lollapalooza stories.
Krish interviews Snoop on the phone; it goes really well, and Snoop tells her he’s heard of the magazine she edits back in the Bay Area.
Pete toils on his Lollapalooza articles while Colin chats with interns.
As the screen fades to black, we’re told that Krish’s Snoop article was published in Rolling Stone’s Fall music preview; Pete published eight Lollapalooza items on the website; Colin published one.

May be you are good singer, you have good voice and you just don’t have confidence to sing in front of some presence. Gain your confidence before you put your self front of judges. Now easier way. Just add you performances at www.preidol.com and others will post them opinion about you. Who is with me?

Russ…don’t put off what you can do today till tomorrow! lol
Keep at it kiddo…Love your work!
Krish… A word of advice, and I hope you don’t mind?
I feel you need to be more broad-minded as far as writing for RS! You are NOT always going to get the genre’s you want! This is NOT what writing for Rolling Stone is about! Give a little bit…You do good work though!
Keep your ‘personal problems’ outside the ‘workplace’ as well!
Just some advice from a published author and free-lance writer~
Keep at it kiddo…
Peace out!

Russel reminds me of what I was like at his age. Get it together, Russ! You don’t want to be like me when you’re my age!
