We got a new look at Insomniac's ambitious new Spider-Man game for PlayStation 4 at Sony's E3 showcase event tonight. This is the most we've seen yet of the web-slinger in his new suit – which is unique to this game – since the game was first announced last year. Plus we also got our first glimpse of the game's villains. It wouldn't be a modern Marvel story if it wasn't a little bit complicated and unexpected, and in that regard this doesn't disappoint. The game has you working with the bad guys (in this case Kingpin) to fight against the even badder guys – the Demons led by Mister Negative, a supervillain that first appeared in the comics back in 2007.
The game will feature both Ultimate Spider-Man, Miles Morales as well as Peter Parker, and based on what was shown in the trailer, the gameplay seems to be a mix of swinging through huge environments – evocative of Treyarch's Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation in 2004 – along with combat that brings that of the Batman Arkham games to mind. Certainly no bad thing. There also seem to be a fair number of quicktime events for some of the more spectacular set-pieces, just like in the original God of War games.
Spider-Man is exclusive to PS4 and will be released in 2018.
