Today the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences released a documentary series, The Game Makers: Inside Story, for free on YouTube.
It’s worth checking out to hear from big name creators like Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear Solid and Amy Hennig, who was creative director on Uncharted and is now working on a Star Wars game, to find out a bit more about just how the tastiest gaming sausage is made.
“I’ve created many different characters and I did the (Metal Gear) series for what, like 30 years?” says Kojima.
“The original characters grew up with the players. Someone who was good becomes a bad guy, or sometimes a bad guy changes and becomes a good guy. It’s like there are all these back and forth transitions and extremes over 30 years as if it’s real life.”
Also starring in the series are Jenova Chen who made indie hits Flower and Journey, narrative designer Mary DeMarle from Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Kiki Wolfkill who is a studio head on the Halo series and David Cage, creator of Heavy Rain and the upcoming Detroit: Become Human.
