Eight years after the release of the movie Avatar a new game based on its world has just been announced. Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment, the people behind The Division, are working alongside Fox Interactive to build a brand new game for consoles and PC.

"With the power of Massive's Snowdrop game engine and the team's passion and obsessive focus on detail we know they are the right group to bring the beauty and danger of Pandora to life," says the movie's director, James Cameron.

The game doesn't have a release date yet, but Ubisoft have got plenty of time to work on it. Cameron is planning the next Avatar movie for late next year and then has promised more sequels in December 2020, 2022, and 2023. That's a lot of blue people.

Of course this isn't the first video game based on the movie. Ubisoft Montreal released James Cameron's Avatar: The Game in 2009 and featured voice work from Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Giovanni Ribisi. As was the fashion at the time, it was one of the few games that supported 3D TVs.
