It’s official, Mass Effect: Andromeda will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on March 21, 2017 in North America and a couple of days later on March 23 in Europe.
It’s been a long time coming for Mass Effect obsessives. The last game in the series, Mass Effect 3, came out in 2012 and tied up the story of hero Commander Shepard. Mass Effect: Andromeda was first announced in 2012, then after the usual drip feed of trailers and screenshots it was delayed in 2016. Now we have a date and later today we’ll get a look at some new footage via Nvidia’s CES keynote.
What do we know about Andromeda so far? There’s a new hero, Sara or Scott Ryder depending on your gender preference, and new ship the Tempest. The action focuses on the Andromeda Initiative and its attempts to create a home in the Andromeda Galaxy. The main enemies you’ll be pointing your space age assault rifles at are the heavily armored Kett.
Bioware’s Aaryn Flynn also revealed in the release date announcement that some members of staff got to take home a special holiday build of the game in accordance with a studio tradition. For anyone that doesn't live with a member of Bioware staff, here's a taste of the game in 4K to hold you over until Nvidia's presentation this evening.
