Yakuza 0

If you have a Japanese Playstation 4, you could’ve been playing Yakuza 0 all the way back in the spring of 2015. It took Atlus a little while to package and localize the latest installment in this much-beloved series, but better late than never for North America's strong, vocal contingent of Yakuza. Yakuza 0 is a prequel to the series' mainline games, set in the late Eighties in a fictional Tokyo. If you’re not familiar with the gameplay, it’s basically a classic beat-’em-up full of hundreds of mini-game distractions and the occasional hours-long stretch of cutscenes. Basically, just imagine if Hideo Kojima directed River City Ransom. The franchise is known for its long, continuous storyline between games, and as a bona fide prequel, Yakuza 0 is a great moment to jump in.
