The Games We Can't Wait to Play Next

From the next 'Mass Effect' to a rebooted 'Resident Evil,' the first chunk of 2017 is looking anything but quiet

Capcom

Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil is in a bad way. The previous numbered installment, Resident Evil 6, was a mess of terrible writing, clunky controls, and an inconsistent campaign. Last year, we got something even worse: Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps, a tactical team-based shooter for PS4 that pales in comparison to 2008's Left 4 Dead in every way. Capcom will try to get things back on track later this month with Resident Evil 7, the first game in the series to be played from a first-person perspective. The buzz around it sounds promising – it's a return to the series' survival-horror roots, which means less shooting and more honest-to-goodness spookiness. And for the bravest among us (not to mention those with unshakable stomachs), the game will be playable from start to finish in VR. Last year, Doom was able to pull off the bold reboot. Let's hope that this year, it's Resident Evil's turn.
