Worst: Nolan North Throws Shade at Striking Voice Actors
Good on Nolan North for giving estranged Uncharted co-creator Amy Hennig her due props, but the star voice actor also dealt a puzzling low blow to his peers in his acceptance speech for Best Performance. Voice actors in the games industry are currently on strike in protest of myriad basic work conditions, and North – who earlier this month confirmed his participation in the strike – went out of his way to sympathize with the opposition. "I'm hearing a lot of talk lately about how 'performance matters,'" Nolan said, in reference to the hashtag that the striking voice actors are using on Twitter. He went on to describe how his own contribution as a voice actor is modest compared to the performance of "every designer, of every programmer, of every hard-working and talented person" involved in the games he's worked on. "Their performance matters more than mine," he said. That's great if he really believes that, but it's also pretty uncool for the most prominent voice actor in games to take the wind out of his less-accomplished colleagues' sails as they fight for better work conditions.
