2. Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009)

Batman: Arkham Asylum was a thesis for tight design structure made into a game. You played only as Batman, only on one island, and only for one night. It had too many boss fights but otherwise was laser-focused on one thing – being a playable Batman comic. That meant it could hit a perfect balance between making you feel like a terrifying badass lurking in the shadows and making sure Batman was equally vulnerable to bullets or Killer Croc's jaws. It's still the best at making you feel like the Dark Knight.
