Game trailers have always been entertaining, but the class of 2016 knocked it out of the park thanks to the ever-blurring line between Hollywood creators, CG houses and game studios blessed with some of the best artists in the business. Some of these mini-masterpieces – the Doom and Dishonored 2 trailers to name two – followed up world-class advertising with equally world-class games. Others looked much further ahead, offering a tantalizing glimpse of what's to come in 2017 if all goes according to plan for the likes of Nintendo, Sony and Rockstar. And one – Overwatch short "The Last Bastion" – appears to exist for no other reason than to celebrate and expand upon its own internal lore and because Blizzard is just really, really good at this shit. Here’s our rundown of the best for 2016.
