8 Things You Need to Know from Ubisoft's E3 2017 Show

From 'Assassin's Creed Origins' to new multiplayer pirate game 'Skull & Bones' and a mobile 'South Park' spin-off game

Skull & Bones

This might be the biggest surprise of E3 so far. Ubisoft is still infatuated with the rousing naval combat of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, so they’re blowing it out into a full product called Skull & Bones. The gameplay we saw looked something like a pirate ship MOBA - players arrange themselves in fleets of specifically categorizable frigates (the tank ship, the sniper ship, etc.) and do epic battle on the high seas. A good comparison is Fractured Space - the free-to-play PVP space game that focuses on large-scale, capital ship-on-capital ship combat with a variety of different min-maxing builds. Skull & Bones looks beautiful, and Ubisoft has proven to be capable with this particular type of competitive balance with games like For Honor and Rainbow Six: Siege. It’s out next year, and a beta sign-up was announced on stage.
