7 of the Best 'Dota 2' Matches Ever Played

Prepare for the Kiev Major this weekend with our rundown of some of the best 'Dota 2' games of all time

Alliance vs Evil Geniuses

From 2013 to 2016, both Alliance and Evil Geniuses were owned and operated by GoodGame Agency, raising eyebrows across the world of Dota 2 about collusion. Yet for almost the first year of this arrangement, any conflict of interest was a moot point; Evil Geniuses wasn't very good, and Alliance was the best in the world. But in the spring of 2014, Evil Geniuses debuted a new roster – the now-legendary quintet of PPD, Zai, Arteezy, Universe, and Fear – that took the Dota 2 world by storm. In the first months of 2014, the team dominated every online tournament they entered.

But there's online play, and then there's LANs. StarLadder Season IX finals in Kiev was Evil Geniuses' first real test, and the first team it faced in the upper bracket was none other than Alliance. Over 76 minutes, Evil Geniuses pushed each other to the outer limits of their abilities; each team manages to convert what seem like hopeless situations back into strategic advantages multiple times throughout the match. Though Evil Geniuses somehow gets the better of Alliance in the end, this clash between sister teams remains one of the rivalry's most iconic bouts.
