7 New Indie Games You Should Play Right Now

From 'Oxygen Not Included' and 'Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator' to a 'Monument Valley' sequel. The rising stars you shouldn't overlook

Life is Feudal: Forest Village

Ever since SimCity gave digital mayors their first taste of power, games have tried to simulate what it would be like to govern a city. It's a lot more challenging than it sounds – you have to keep everyone employed, manage infrastructure, and weigh your ideal leadership style against the immediate needs of your hamlet.

Life is Feudal: Forest Village takes that idea back to the feudal era and adds a fashionable survival-themed twist. That means that on top of managing the touchy finances or economics of a town, you have to struggle to keep everyone alive and properly motivated. Your work isn't too hard, though, thanks to some fantastic menus and spreadsheets. And yeah, we're serious. While Forest Village can absorb hours of your time, it's worth remembering that it's still a management simulator. So if you're not prepared to get down and dirty with at least a few figures while you order villagers to get literally dirty digging for potatoes, this isn't your game.

Life is Feudal: Forest Village is on Steam for $24.99.
