'Thumper' Drool45/50

45. Thumper

Thumper’s rhythm-action ghost ride – one of the standouts for PlayStation VR when it launched in October – takes the conventions set by Guitar Hero and Amplitude, then remixes in the most melancholy of middle eights: death. Complex-yet-clutter-free levels task you with moving along a rollercoaster-style track littered with relentless obstacles while not being fooled by the accompanying, entrancing beat, which seems to be match your button taps but is in fact luring you into a false sense of security. Like the greatest heavy metal solos, its undercurrent of evil is also its greatest charm.
