46. Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest

The joint-14th Fire Emblem game – this one exists in tandem with Fire Emblem Fates Birthright, also for Nintendo 3DS – makes no apologies for being aimed staunchly at series veterans. Its turn-based battles offer zero handholding, yet even expert players can be caught out by the rock-paper-scissors-like fight system; making it all the more rewarding when a specific tactical choice pays off. As battles are won relationships between your charges develop, with support conversations adding a sense of story – and consequence – in the of wake of wins and losses. And there’s a tangible benefit, too, as good relationships unlock even better recruits.
