35. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
Knocking Call of Duty is so fashionable many forget that, under the Ward/Zampella axis of Infinity Ward, this was a series that repeatedly overhauled shooter conventions on an annual basis. Never more so than exceptional 2007 release Modern Warfare. While this remastering is mostly of the literal, cosmetic variety, it’s still well worth a replay thanks to its stunningly enhanced visuals. Just as it did nearly a decade ago, the game unfolds as a truly grounded, gritty conflict, as opposed to the Michael Bay blitzkriegs found amid its futuristic successors. Levels such as Aftermath retain all their raw emotional power, and even after nine years and endless sequels, that Captain Price-accompanied crawl through Pripyat simply never feels dated.
