"This shouldn't be a problem," you might think. "I just need to find a fishing rod somewhere on this plateau. There's probably a tutorial where the old man explains that I need to jam on the 'A' button when I see the lure bob. Piece of cake.”
To catch fish in Breath of the Wild you simply jump into the water and splash around after them, hoping you can catch up before they wriggle away. It's mechanically simple and, let's be honest – tedious. Easier just to toss some bait onto the surface, watch them school, and throw a bomb in afterward.
Ocarina of Time's infamous fishin' hole, where it felt like you had a one-in-a-bazillion chance of actually catching something, is perhaps not the best example of the form. But let's be real: If Breath did have a real fishing mini game, it could at least be as good as Sega Bass Fishing on the Dreamcast, right?
