A "Swap" Button
There are other issues with Breath of the Wild's user interface besides the game having too many menu screens. More than one player has wondered, for example, why they need to sort through menus just to eat a healing dish during combat, or why switching bows and melee weapons can feel so clunky.
Those are valid critiques. Maybe a circular weapon select wheel would have worked better than a linear list, and maybe there should be shortcuts for food and elixir consumption. But there's another interface problem in Breath that seems even more fundamental: the lack of a "swap" button, as envisioned by this Amped-UX article republished on Kotaku.
Every time you try to pick up a weapon and the game tells you your inventory is full, you should have the option to swap your currently held item with the one on the ground rather than having to dig through your inventory screens for the millionth time. It's really that simple. Maybe this is even one the developers could add in a patch – we are living in a Zelda-with-DLC world, after all.
