Anybody who prowled the irreverent Flash game graveyard Newgrounds will recognize the broad strokes of Samurai Lantern: as a katana-wielding samurai, you must scamper back and forth across ornate platforms, all the while collecting lanterns and slashing your way through reams of miniscule ghosts that lurk in the darkness. The game demands finesse, as a slight forced delay between sword strikes ensures that a mistimed swing will result in your untimely demise, but like so many of its brethren, persistence is the key. While the layering of obstacles can get a bit thick near the end – how many sawblades can a single platform support? – it boasts the "just-one-more-run" sensibility of the games it imitates, and that's enough to recommend it wholeheartedly.
