Illustrating a broadening cultural consensus that Young People Like Esports, the Obama administration on December 12 invited esports personalities including Street Fighter competitors Mike Ross and Justin Wong to the White House for a "gaming marathon" in support of insurance sign-ups. Whether this maneuver had an appreciable effect on the likelihood of the Affordable Care Act surviving the incoming President-Elect remains to be seen; what's certainly true is that this is the first time the White House has associated itself with esports, and the moment has tremendous symbolic importance.
