If you play Blizzard's massive card game Hearthstone, and millions do, you probably have two of the most iconic cards Sylvanas Windrunner and Ragnaros the Firelord knocking around at least a couple of your decks. Well, not for much longer.
They're part of a collection of six cards that Blizzard is removing from the Standard game as part of its latest reshuffle. The Year Of The Mammoth is coming in Hearthstone, and it's bringing a heap of changes. Along with Sylvanas Windrunner and Ragnaros the Firelord, Azure Drake, Ice Lance, Conceal and Power Overwhelming are all out too. Players can still use the cards in Hearthstone's Wild mode, but most hardcore players focus on Standard. Blizzard explains why it's made these changes.
"In order to keep Hearthstone exciting and accessible as more cards are added, Standard allows players to use the most recently released cards, as well as a core of Basic and Classic cards," it says.
"Our overall intention with Standard is to keep the game feeling fresh for all of our players, and to allow newer players to jump into Hearthstone quickly, without collecting lots of cards to build a competitive deck. Standard also gives our developers more freedom when designing new cards for the future."
Another bit of news from Hearthstone HQ is that there will be three expansions this year, bringing a bunch of new cards.
"For the Year of the Mammoth, our release cycle will include a ~130 card expansion at the start of the year, a ~130 card expansion in the middle of the year, and another ~130 card expansion at the end of the year."
But the price of all those new cards? There won't be any of the more Adventure add-ons in 2017, single player stuff will come as part of expansions instead.
RIP Ragnaros. You'll live on in our hearts. And Wild mode.
