Once you've made a game about penises herding sausage dogs and wearing adorable hats there's only one obvious next step: a virtual reality gladiator game. Gorn, the new game from Free Lives, is the goriest take on VR combat yet and will be released on Steam Early Access on July 10.
The trailer hints at some of the weapons you'll get to use in Gorn, and there is a liberal splashing of gore with every death. "Savagely strike down an infinite supply of poorly-animated opponents with all manner of weapons – from swords, maces, and bows to nunchuks, throwing knives, massive two-handed warhammers or even your blood-soaked bare hands," says developer Free Lives.
It's already had the seal of approval from Firefly and Star Wars: Rogue One actor Alan Tudyk. He brought the game up when talking about social gaming with friends versus solo VR gaming. "I don't know if you've played Gorn yet. It doesn't feel like it matters when you're slaughtering people in a gladiator situation, you're ripping their heads off and using their dead bodies as weapons against other gladiators."
The game is built for HTC Vive and room scale VR so you might want to start limbering up and moving your couch around now, in preparation for next months Early Access release.
