Destiny 2 impressed PC gamers with the news that it would have 4K support and an uncapped framerate, but Bungie has now confirmed that there is currently no set release date for the PC version.

The console versions of the shooter sequel will be released on September 8, and many in the community assumed the same would be true for the PC version. It still could be – Amazon is still listing the release date for physical PC copies as September 8 – but the fact that Bungie is playing it safe runs the risk of upsetting the PC gaming community before they even have a chance to play.

When it does launch Bungie is promising:

  • 4k Resolution Support (3820x2160)
  • Uncapped framerate
  • Full mouse and keyboard support with custom key mapping
  • Text chat
  • Adjustable Field of View
  • Detailed PC settings screen
  • 21:9 monitor support

The PC rig that Bungie was running during the gameplay reveal livestream was an i7-7700K 4.2GHz with 16GB of RAM and a GTX 1080Ti graphics card – and looked great – so there's still hope for a simultaneous release.

Update: "We're not committed to a PC date yet, but at Bungie we're totally committed to making a PC build as great as we can," game director Luke Smith told PC Gamer. "Our partnership with Blizzard and being on Battle.net, we want to make sure that this version of the game has the time it needs to bake in the oven so it's a delicious piece of bread when it comes out."
