Transformers: Mystery of Convoy
Transformers: The Movie was released three years late in Japan, but Japanese audiences kept up to date with the TV show. That created some confusion, since the movie was part of the same canon and its events were frequently referenced by the show, including the death of Optimus Prime (known as Convoy in Japan). This Famicom game had Autobot Ultra Magnus investigate the murder, filling fans in on this vital bit of story. If they could get past the first level, anyway. Mystery of Convoy was made bastard-hard by enemy projectiles being tiny specks that vanished into the garish backgrounds and Ultra Magnus dying if hit by a single one. It was made even harder by the fact that enemies typically took a couple of return shots to drop. If you somehow survived to the game's ninth level you'd find a maze that looped infinitely unless completed in a specific sequence that was impossible to guess.
